Spartan Lodge

Nestled within it's own small private coppice, beneath a canopy of Ash, Oak, Beech, Willow, Sycamore and Poplar.

Luxury meets simplicity

Spartan lodge is light and airy and surprisingly spacious. The double bed is positioned centally, to take in the wonders of the coppice. The seating/dining area is furnished with vintage and up cycled furniture, while the kitchenette is fitted with all necessary mod-cons. Outside there is a small deck which provides the perfect place to wallow in comfy chairs and listen to the breeze dance through the trees.

Quirky washroom

Our compact Rice horse trailer Forest.....'Forest Dump' came to us in exceptional condition for a 40 year old utilitarian vehicle. It's compact dimensions were perfect for conversion into a self contained unit. While the trailer has been left as authentic as possible, with the original floorboards, bridle hooks and tie rings, modern day conveniences have been included. A heated towel rail provides background warmth, and the gas powered shower supplies ample hot water. A compost toilet ensures the eco-friendly credentials.

The Lodge

Situated in it's own private coppice, the lodge is some 500m from our home and neighbouring properties.
Cosy yet comfortable, there is over 18m2 of floor space and electric radiators each end of the lodge.
The double bed is situated in front of the double doors to maximise views of the coppice and beyond.
Faux fur throws provide extra warmth and blankets have been provided to protect bedding from cheeky dogs.
The living area has two reclaimed wicker chairs, dressed with cosy sheepskins, together with a practical upcycled fold away table.
The small kitchenette has a sink with hot and cold running water, small 30cm 'RV' gas oven, electric single ring counter top hob (stored in cupboard by sink), electric mini 'hotel' fridge, kettle, toaster and 3 cup cafetier. Fully equiped for two, with pots, pans, baking trays, cooking utensils, glasses, china and cutlery.
Daily essentials, including tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, semi skimmed milk, eggs, jam & marmalade, bread & butter are provided, together with condiments of salt, pepper and spices.

Washroom

A vintage horse trailer has been converted into a fully equiped washroom, consisting of gas powered walk in shower, with rainfall & sliding shower handset, and wash basin with hot & cold water.
There is a compost toilet, which uses wood shavings as a composting agent.
The washroom has a heated towel rail to provide background warmth.
A completmentary selection of toiletries, including shampoo & body wash, conditioner, hand soap and moisturiser are provided.

Outside

The outside deck is furnished with comfy garden chairs and side table.
There is an fire pit, barbecue and a pizza oven for the more adventurous. All are sited in a little sunlit clearing.
The outside dog wash has warm running water and complementary shampoo.
A large belfast sink doubles as a paddling pool.
The private, enclosed coppice has a circular woodchip walk and interconnecting mown paths.

Safety

There is a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm in the lodge.
Fire extinguishers are positioned by the entrance door. A fire blanket hangs to the right of the entrance door.
The ground outside the logde is undulating. Please take care when walking around the site, especially at night.
There are steps leading to/from the lodge and the wash room. Please use the banister as necessary.
A first aid kit is in the cupboard under the sink.

Sleeping

The double bed has a Dormeo memory foam matteress and is fitted with a 10.5 togg king size duvet, mattress topper and mattress protector.
There are four pillows, two firm (plain) and two medium (design).
There is faux fir throw, cotton throw and wool blanket for extra warmth.

Rubbish

Please use the bin in the cabinet under the sink for compostable waste. All other waste can be taken to the recycling bins to the side of the lodge. This area is accessed by undoing the rope from the clip on the upstand.

Washroom

While the washroom has a heated towel rail, the unit will inevitably remain chilly during cold weather.
The compost toilet will need a handful of activated wood shavings adding to the bowl.

Conectivity

There are numerous plug sockets around the lodge with USB charging points.
There is no WiFi in the lodge and mobile signal is dependent upon provider.
There is no TV, so a perfect place to get away from it all.

Dogs

Dog blankets, bowls, tennis balls and treats are provided in the small blanket box by the door.
Please use blankets on the furniture and keep dogs off the bed and chairs when wet or dirty.
The dog wash temperature can be set using the flapper valve under the sink.
Crates are available in the lean to, should you wish to contain your dog after a walk in wet/dirty conditions.
Dog towels are hung by the door, extra are available upon request. Please do not use human being towels for drying your dog.
There is a large plastic dog bed with liners under the bed.
Compostable dog poo bags are provided. Please clear up dog mess and put in bin provided.
The coppice has been fenced to 1.2m with stock netting and post and rail fencing.
For any dog who is not livestock freindly, please ensure they are kept under close supervision at all times. Unfortunately, stock injuries/losses will be chargeable.
Dog walking facility may be available at £20 per 2 - 3 hours

Entertainment

Playing cards and a small slection of books are in the bedside cabinets.

The lodge is accessed via 'the tradesman’s entrance'. Unfortunately, the locked farm gate, adjacent to Poplars garage, is not the prettiest of entrances, however, it does provide you with your own access.
Most of the land is within a flood plain. In winter and after periods of heavy rainfall, the lodge may need to be accessed via our own house entrance.
You will travel the working heart (ugly part) of the farm, past a 'bunded' machinery/materials yard. The surrounding track can be dusty, wet, muddy and/or mucky.
You may encounter farm traffic, wayward sheep or horses being exercised. Please drive carefully.
There is private parking for two large vehicles, just outside the coppice boundary.
The gate access code and directions will be provided upon booking.
While the coppice is secluded, there may be noise from passing farm traffic and resident dogs, horses, sheep and goats.
The coppice borders neighbouring smallholding who also have resident dogs, horses and goats. Their dogs can be very vocal...as can the owner!
Please don't wash your car before you visit!
Please keep gates closed.
Please do not feed the animals.
